Police said that the issue began when a few inmates were playing volleyball near the camp when the ball fell on Sivaraj (45), a resident of Pooluvampatti. An argument ensued between them and Sivaraj informed his son Sugendrakumar about it.Â
Sugendrakumar, being an HM member, went to the camp with around 10 persons. Hindu Munnani members, led by district president Ramesh Kumar, questioned those who picked up a quarrel with Sivaraj. A clash occured between them.Â
In due course, a few inmates of the camp attacked Ramesh with a knife. Ramesh was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. The news of the attack spread like wildfire and around 200 HM functionaries thronged the camp.Â
Alandurai police tried to pacify the mob when one of them hurled a Molotov cocktail at the entrance of the refugee camp. Luckily, it did not go off. Â Agitated over the incident, the inmates of the camp also ganged up. Â
Based on Ramesh’s complaint the police registered a case against five inmates.  Based on a counter complaint from one Johnson, three HM personnel were booked. Four in all were arrested from both sides.
