More than 2500 wards of police personnel, who are eligible for appointment on compassionate grounds, have been waiting to get appointment orders for several years. Many of them have been waiting for over 12 years.

The Tamil Nadu Police Ministerial Staff Association on Tuesday submitted an eight- point charter of demands to the government. The association members alleged that the government had been discriminating against the police department when it came to appointment on compassionate grounds. “Every year about 300 police department staff die in service but only 30 to 40 persons get the job on compassionate grounds in a year.

We want the government  to appoint these applicants to both police and other departments where there are vacancies,” P M Manoharan, state president of the association said. “The children who were in Class 1 when their parent died in service, are now graduates. But they insist that only the spouse could get the job, when in reality they could have crossed the employable age,” he added.
