Encroachment near Salem temple: CoP apologises
The Salem Police Commissioner, who was summoned to be present in the court owing to the failure to remove encroachments around the Sugavaneshvarar Swamy temple, informed the court on Tuesday that as on date there is no encroachment around the temple and that the police are assisting the Corporation in removing the encroachments as and when it is noticed.

Justice N Kirubakaran on recording the presence of the Commissioner of Police, Salem, assistant commissioner of police (Law and Order), Salem south division, assistant commissioner of police (Traffic), divisional officer, Fire and Rescue Service, Salem and executive engineer, HR & CE Salem and their unconditional apology dispensed with their further appearance.
However, the judge directed the HR & CE to produce the CCTV clippings regarding the happenings that reportedly took place on its premises on February 7, 2017, based on which an FIR has been filed against the petitioner.Â
Since special government pleader M Maharaja sought time to give details on the action based on the Joint Inspection Report, the judge posted the case for hearing to July 24. The officials were summoned based on a contempt plea for their failure to remove encroachments temple and provide police protection.
