NSG team inspects Rameswaram temple ahead of PM’s visit
As Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is expected to visit Rameswaram and inaugurate the memorial being built for the former president APJ Abdul Kalam at Peikarumbu, a team of four NSG commandos arrived at the holy town and inspected the Ramanatha Swamy Temple.

It is also said that the PM may offer worship at the Ramanatha Swamy Temple at Rameswaram. To ensure the safety aspect at the temple ahead of the expected visit of Modi, the NSG commandos, led by team Commander Thinu Rajasekar, along with the local police, conducted a thorough inspection of the temple.
The team initially inspected the eastern and western entrances of the temple which were used by a large number of devotees. The entrances were further checked with metal detectors. They ensured that all the CCTV cameras located around the temple were in good working condition and also scrutinised the footage in the cameras. The commandos exhaustively inspected the second and third praharams.
In order to check the feasibility of keeping an eye on devotees, who come to the temple, the commandos climbed atop the temple tower, to check if it could be used for aerial surveillance. They also inspected all routes that lead to the vimana (tower).
A meeting between the commandos and temple officials was held. All information about all the staff at the temple including their residence, were gathered by the NSG team. The commandos also collected details about the houses adjacent to the temple.
Apart from this, information about shop-keepers at the western entrance the temple were also noted down by the team. The NSG commandos were given a blue print of the temple complex.
Though the commandos refused to talk to the media, police sources confirmed that the inspection was conducted in view of the visit of the Prime Minister to Rameswaram temple.
