The incident happened in the house of Mohammed Ismail, former councillor of ward 38 of Dindigul Municipal Corporation and ward secretary of the AIADMK. The miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at his house at 2.30 am. Though, the bomb failed to explode, it created a loud thud.Â
Ismail, who came out of his house, on hearing the noise, noticed the bomb and informed the police.Â
Police conducted an inquiry and it was found out that some of the Muslim cadre of the ruling party had protested the decision of the ruling party to vote for the NDA’s Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind.Â
State Forest Minister Dindigul Srinivasan was expected to participate in an Iftaar ceremony there. Posters and flex boards for the function were put up at Begumpur with the photos of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy, the Minister and Ismail for the purpose. Some of the angry AIADMK cadre tore the flex boards and shouted slogans against the leaders for supporting the BJP in the Presidential election after breaking the fast.Â
Police security was tightened following the protest. Even then as Ismail was the representative of the party in that locality, his house was targeted by the miscreants, police said. A search is on for the attackers, they added.Â
