CM Edappadi Palanisamy opens 273 school buildings across state

The new facilities include buildings for 15 schools in Tiruvannamalai district at an estimated cost of Rs 25.12 crore, while another Rs 5.26 crore was utilised to construct classrooms in the government higher secondary schools, an official release said. 

Similarly, the schools in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruchy, The Nilgiris, Salem, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Namakkal, Nagapattinam, Tirupur, Perambalur, Karur, Ariyalur, Coimbatore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Sivaganga and Dindigul districts were provided facilities valued at Rs 346.14 crore, the release added. 

The new facilities were expected to give a fillip to middle, high and higher secondary school education and ensure increased admissions, the release said. 

Likewise, the Chief Minister also launched infrastructure facilities for colleges and polytechnics across the state. Classrooms and an administrative block at a cost of Rs 25.66 crore were inaugurated at the polytechnic college in Tondiarpet. An arts and science college in the same area too got a building worth Rs 8.48 lakh, the official release added. 

Meanwhile, the CM also handed over appointment orders to 50 workers at a function at the secretariat on Saturday. Those issued appointment orders were drawn from the highways, labour and stationery and printing departments, the official release stated. The vacancies arose due to staff dying in harness, following which their close relatives were appointed on compassionate grounds.
