The Minister, along with Higher Education officials, released the toppers’ list. He said that 59 students got the 200/200 cut-off marks, out of which 36 were also eligible for medicine. Around 811 students came in the 199 cut-off and among them, 645 have also opted for biology.

A total of 2,097 students fall under the 198 cut-off marks bracket, out of which 1,681 students are eligible for NEET. With regard to the 197 cut-off bracket, out of 3,766 students in the list, 3,014 are eligible for medicine. Anbalagan also said there was a possibility that some students, after attending the engineering counselling ,and being allocated a seat, might switch to medicine after the NEET results are out.

This will result in seats going vacant, even in top engineering colleges. “To avoid such a situation, we decided to postpone the counselling dates,” he said.

Sriram B from Thanjavur secured the first rank while Hari Vishnu M from Tiruppur secured the second and Saairam V from Chennai got the third rank.

Celebrations have already started at Sriram B’s house. His father Balasubramaniam, who is an employee of LIC, says, “It is a proud moment for us. We were a bit disappointed that he didn’t clear IIT JEE but this is a very good news. He is a Computer Science student and his first option is College of Engineering, Anna University.”

Vishnu M is also from the Computer Science stream. “I will opt for computer science in CEG. My dream is to eventually work abroad,” he said.
