Profit-making PSUs will not be privatised, assures Nirmala

She said the government has been discussing only about those PS Undertakings which have been continuing as non-profitable ones. These will be handed over to the private sector under 49- 51 per cent basis, she added.

However, she refuted the rumours of privatisation of the OFT (Ordinance Factory Tiruchy). “I have no details to disclose anything on OFT,” she said. At the same time, the minister said that the centre has been taking steps to revive the auxiliary units of BHEL which have been facing difficulties after the international tender bid had been introduced.

Answering a query about setting up AIIMS in the state, the union minister said that the centre had already sanctioned one such institute to Tamil Nadu and the state government along with a technical team and union government should finalise the spot.

“There may be political lobbying about selecting the place for AIIMS but the Centre has nothing to do with it. If the technical team is satisfied, the institution will be established precisely at the place finalised by the team,” she said.

Earlier, the minister was addressing traders on GST in a one day conference. She said that GST has been implemented after a series of discussion with as many as 18 committees formed specifically for the purpose.

The GST has been implemented only after much thought and it would help traders act independently. They need not approach the officials for taxations here after. At the same time, traders should come forward to clarify their doubts, the minister added.
