Photo expo, film fest planned for MGR centenary in Madurai
A historic photo exhibition on former Chief Minister, MG Ramachandran, and also a film festival have been planned for the centenary celebrations of MGR. These are expected to be major crowd pullers said Madurai Collector K Veera Raghav Rao here, on Friday.

The ruling AIADMK government had announced a year-long celebrations for MGR centenary with a series of events planned for the occasion. Madurai has been chosen as the first place of celebration in the state. There are plans to organise a grand function at ‘Amma Thidal’ in Madurai.
Competitions: The Collector, who will be in charge of the arrangements, said that various events such as oratorical, essay writing, poem writing and drawing competitions will be conducted for school and college students under three categories and sports events will also be held.Â
Various awareness events such as cycle rallies and marathon will be conducted to popularise the event. Events for women at the ward and union level have been planned. He informed that winners will be felicitated at the function.Â
Apart from that, a historical photo exhibition showcasing some of the rare photographs of MGR and his social initiatives will be part of the event. Â Similarly, a film festival (popular movies of MGR) will commence from Friday. The films will be screened on large LED screens in government vehicles in various parts of Madurai for seven days, explained the Collector.
