Boiler blast at rice mill in Pudukkottai; 7 injured
Seven workers of a rice mill at Alangudi sustained injuries following the bursting of a boiler in the mill on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said that the boiler was hurled a kilometre away.

Sources said, a rice mill, which has been functioning in Alangudi for long, had 10 persons working in it. While the workers were boiling rice at 10 am on Tuesday, there was a blast and the boiler was hurled out of the mill.Â
In the blast seven workers sustained injuries. Other workers and neighbours rushed and tried to rescue the affected. The injured were taken to Alangudi GH by the police.Â
The injured persons have been identified as S Marimuthu (40), C Lakshmanan (46), C Pazhanivelu (35), M Jeyapandi (20), all the four from Mankottai near Alangudi, S Marimuthu (42) a resident of Kummankulam, K Rajendran (45) and M Annadurai (42), both from Pappanviduthi.Â
Marimuthu from Alangudi, who sustained severe injuries was later referred to the Pudukkottai general hospital.Â
On getting information about the blast, hundreds of residents from the Alangudi town and its surroundings gathered at the mill. Preliminary investigations revealed that boiler had burst due to heavy pressure. A case has been registered by Alangudi police and further investigation is on.
