    Bio-metric attendance in Pondy offices from July 1

    Chief Minister V Narayanasamy informed the Territorial Assembly on Wednesday that bio-metric attendance registration method would be introduced in all government offices here from July 1.

    Winding up the debate for grants on various departments including legislative assembly, judiciary, sale tax and among others, the Chief Minister said that the government would take steps for the construction of a new building for legislative assembly. After due discussions with the Speaker and legislators, the land for the same would be identified and steps would be taken to get central assistance. 

    The Cabinet would decide the matter of hiking the salary and pension of the legislators, he said. The government was taking steps to ensure that right from the officials to the grassroot level government staff did their duty properly. 

    The CM said that there were frequent complaints that the employees were not found in their seats during working hours and were coming late for duty. To put an end to this, the government proposed to introduce bio-metric attendance registration system from July 1. 

    Promotions of the government employees would be granted in time, he said, adding that government employees should not wander in the assembly premises during office hours to meet the Chief Minister and Ministers, he added. The CM said that steps would be taken to fill up all the vacant posts of judges   and added that efforts would be made to set up a bench of the Madras HC. 

    Since, a case pertaining to the holding of local body election is pending with the court, the government would consider holding election after the disposal of the case, he added. The government would ensure that Puducherry was not affected because of the GST, he said, adding that the revenue loss would be compensated by getting funds from the Centre. 

    Narayansamy said that top priority was being accorded to maintenance of law and order and steps are being taken to modernize the police force. Totally, 21 teams named “flying tigers” have been constituted to prevent crimes. Steps were being taken to prevent prisoners using cell phones from prison to threaten industrialists, he added.
