Party functionary VP Kalairajan, who spoke to the media, said, “We discussed the going ons in Tamil Nadu during the absence of Dinakaran. Today, he has the support of 29 MLAs (he first mentioned 30 and then said 29).”  With the Assembly stated to start its month-long session from June 14, “We are hopeful of more MLAs joining us before that,” he said.

Later, in the day two more MLAs Chandraprabha (Srivilliputhur) and Kothandapani (Tiruporur) met Dinakaran. At the end of the day, Vijila Sathyanand, MP, also expressed her support for Dinakaran. Meanwhile, Finance Minister D Jayakumar refused to reply to a statement made by Thanga Tamilselvan and termed the MLAs meeting Dinakaran as courtesy calls.  Jayakumar’s statement that they would have no truck with Dinakaran as the government had enough legislators’ support initially encouraged moves for the merger.

Earlier, AIADMK (PTA) leader and MP Dr V Maitreyan sarcastically asked, “Do you expect this corrupt government to last another two months?” Asked for his reaction regarding helping the rival EPS group, he said, “How can we help with just 10 MLAs?”

“There is nothing to prevent the DMK from trying to bring about a no confidence motion against the government this time and this they will do when they feel the time is ripe” said a AIADMK(PTA) leader who did not want to be named. “Our Dharma Yudham will have no effect or respect if we align ourselves with the EPS group” he added.
