Group clash averted in Tiruchy
Tension prevailed at Gandhi market in Tiruchy after two groups belonging to two different sections attempted to attack each other over a petty issue of mobile phone snatching, but police prevented the clash.

It is said, a 16-yearold boy belonging to a community reportedly snatched away a mobile phone of Vijayalakshmi, of another community. The incident happened at 10.30 pm on Sunday at Pillaimanagar in Gandhi market area.  On seeing him snatch the mobile, a group of youth chased and assaulted him and recovered the phone. Hearing the news of assault, a group of people led by Kennedy, a political  party functionary, relative of the accused rushed to the spot and picked up quarrel with the youth, who reportedly assaulted the political party functionary. This had prompted the party cadre along with a group of youth to assemble, in a place, in the wee hours on Monday.  On information, Gandhi market police rushed to the spot and  dispersed them. They also detained the minor who was accused of snatching the mobile. Meanwhile, Kennedy who was reportedly injured in the attack was admitted in the Government Hospital.
