    Addressing a press conference here, Narayanasamy, said, the police have sent culprits involved in recent murders to judicial custody after identifying the cause for the murders. All steps to ensure adequate security to tourists coming to Puducherry was taken after holding talks with the DGP, he said, adding that there were some black sheep in the police department and steps are being taken to weed them out.

    He said a Superintendent of police was already suspended in this connection. The Chief Minister said it is the responsibility of the government to provide security to the life and property of the people and hence a free hand was given to the police force. 

    He also pointed out that a few police personnel were dismissed for having nexus with gamblers. Stating that a few in the police department are collecting bribes, the Chief Minister said that steps would be taken to put an end to this menace.

    Stating that he is not going to celebrate his birthday, he called upon his supporters not to erect banners for the purpose. The banners and cut-outs erected already should be removed forthwith, he said. The PWD minister along with officials of the municipality should remove the erected banners and cut-outs. The wealthy party cadre who wanted to erect cut-outs should donate the money to the Chief Minster’s relief fund and the money, he added. On the GST issue, he said at the GST Council Meeting in Srinagar on May 18 and 19, it was decided not to impose any tax on food items. Puducherry will be benefited from GST, since 50 per cent of GST collection would come to the government, he said.
