Madurai
The woman identified as Nasreen of Puliangudi in Tirunelveli, suffered from fever. But, as she was in the eighth month of her pregnancy, she avoided taking medicine thinking that it would affect the baby. However, her condition worsened and only after 15 days of fever, she got admitted to a private hospital.
The blood test carried out at the private hospital confirmed the fever as dengue. The hospital management gave the reports to Nasreen’s kin and told them to take her to the Tirunelveli GH for further treatment. On Saturday, Nasreen was shifted to Tirunelveli GH, but she died on Sunday.
When contacted doctors at the Tirunelveli GH refused to accept that it was dengue and contended that she had died of some mysterious fever. The doctors also said that they cannot confirm dengue based on the blood test report of a private hospital.
However, the Tirunelveli Health Department officials directed the health workers in Puliangudi to stop the spread of fever in the area and instructed them to carry out the protocol meant for containing the infection.
