Acute water scarcity in Kodaikanal
The present storage in the dams will be sufficient for drinking water supply only for the next 10 days, officials said.
The tourist town of Kodaikanal is facing acute water crisis owing to rapid depletion of storage in old and new reservoirs near the observatory and in bore wells near the lake, which were the main drinking water sources for the hill station.
The present storage in the dams will be sufficient for drinking water supply only for the next 10 days, officials said.
Many streams on upper and lower Kodaikanal hills were dry, they said.
Kodaikanal Municipality has been struggling to maintain water supply to residential areas for the past 15 days.
Water pumped from bore wells is being collected in a well near the lake to maintain supply.
To augment drinking water supply, the Government had sanctioned Rs 42 crore for implementation of lower Gundar project long back. However the work is yet to be completed.
