    Transport staff to go on strike from May 15

    The Trade Unions (TUs) of transport workers have decided to strike work from May 15 after their talks with Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar failed on Monday.

    A statement issued by the TUs pointed out that the Minister offered an immediate allocation of Rs 500 crore in addition to the budgetary allocation of Rs 1,923 crore. 

    The TUs pointed out that the state-run transport corporations has outstanding dues towards commutation, and retirement benefits to employees to the tune of Rs 1,700 crore, and the allocation of Rs 500 crore will not suffice. 

    The TUs demanded that at least Rs 2,500 crore should be immediately allotted towards the payment of outstanding dues, besides a separate allocation for purchase of 8,000 buses, and a separate allocation to mete out the daily loss of Rs 5 crore.
