Opposition slams frisking of NEET examinees
Opposition parties in the state have lashed out at the Centre and the state for the embarrassments the state students were subjected to during Sunday’s National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Leading the charge from the front, DMK working president MK Stalin on Monday condemned the ruling AIADMK for the students being subjected to frisking at NEET venues. Criticising the state government’s inability to get the President’s assent for the NEET Bill, Stalin said the government, apart from depriving the poor rural students of their opportunities, had also insulted the medical aspirants of the state.
Backing Stalin, state Congress president Su Thirunavukkarasar said, “The kind of restrictions imposed on students made people wonder if they were living in India or Idi Amin’s regime and if the rule of law prevails in the state?” Strongly condemning the governments for the “sleeve tearing” act, Thirunavukkarasar said the government had forced innocent students to walk through metal detectors, as if they were terrorists.
PMK MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss cautioned the CBSE to abstain from indulging in human rights violations on the pretext of stopping irregularities. He also wondered what prompted the CBSE to act in a manner contradicting its own advice to students to keep themselves stress-free before taking the tests.
Criticising the Centre for disregarding Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution demanding exemption for the state from NEET, CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan said the Centre had not only deprived rural students of their opportunities, but, had also created undue mental stress to them.
