6 die in mishap near Dindigul

Six persons, including a woman, died in a road accident when a bus rammed a lorry at Ambathurai village near Chinnalapatti in Dindigul district, on May 5.

The accident happened in the morning when a bus from Dindigul was on its way to Madurai. At Ambathurai, a lorry that was stationed on the right side of the road was trying to set right a punctured tyre. 
The bus driver thought that the lorry was moving on the right side of the road. Only when he came too close to the vehicle did he realise that it was a stationary one. By that time, it was too late and when he tried to avoid the vehicle, the right side of the bus hit the lorry. 
As a result, six persons who were sitting close to the windows sustained fatal injuries. The deceased were identified as Seeniammal, from Meentachipuram in Madurai, Selvan Benedict Sanjay, from Ambainayakanur in Dindigul, Somasundaram from Srirangam, Narayanan from Srivilliputhur and two unidentified persons. Fifteen more passengers sustained serious injuries and they were rushed to Dindigul GH for treatment. However, the bus driver absconded from the scene.
CM announces solatium 
Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palanisamy, who was in Madurai, announced a solatium of Rs 1 lakh each for the families of the persons who had died in the accident. Similarly, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 have been announced as compensation for people who had sustained injuries in the  accident.
