No let up in Kodanad murder probe: Nilgiris Superintendent of Police
A spate of accidents that left one of the prime accused in late CM J Jayalalithaa’s Kodanad Estate murder and dacoity dead and a key accused critically ill has not affected investigations of the sensational case, said Murali Rambha Superintendent of Police (SP) of The Nilgiris at Coimbatore on Wednesday.

He conducted inquiries with one of the prime accused KV Sayan, who was seriously injured in an accident and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital here.
“We are collecting scientific and other circumstantial evidences in the case. Our teams are leaving no stone unturned and working diligently,” he said. Spending a little more than two hours at the hospital off the Avinashi Road in the city, the SP said that life of Sayan is more important now. “Now he is stable, conscious and also able to speak a bit. First we are concentrating on restoring his health. Sayan would be properly investigated when he is discharged, he added.
Accompanied by a police officer in the rank of an additional superintendent of police and a DSP, the SP inquired with the doctors about Sayan’s ealth. The team spent more than an hour in the ICU.
On Tuesday evening, Murali Rambha and his team conducted inquiries with Kanagaraj’s family at Samuthiram near Edappadi in Salem district. That night they visited the place where he was killed in an accident involving a bike that Kanagaraj rode and a car on the national highway at Attur in Salem District. The team conducted inquiries with Sayan’s family on Wednesday evening.
Police get 3-day custody of accused
The Nilgiris district police have got custody of two persons said to be having a role in the sensational Kodanad Estate security guard murder and dacoity case. The duo identified as Madavana Veedu Jithin (19) of Valillappuzha in Malappuram district, Kerala, and Karatt Jamsheed (32) of Vythiri in Wayanad district, Kerala, were arrested by the Kerala police in a cheating case.
Police sources said that the duo was arrested by the Malappuram police based on a cheating complaint lodged by a tourist vehicle operator. He had come to know that the duo had misused the car they had taken on rent from him for committing the crime at Kodanad.
The two were lodged in the Malappuram sub jail and The Nilgiris police obtained a Prisoner Transit (PT) warrant against them from the Kotagiri judicial magistrate. The duo was produced before the Kotagiri judicial magistrate on Wednesday. The police sought five days custody for investigation. However, the magistrate gave them only three days.
