Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Pollachi V Jayaraman and Pollachi MP C Mahendran too seconded Velumani’s request but in different venues.

“Too many people making different statements to media (about the details of merger) is complicating the issue. So, the Chief Minister has advised ministers and MLAs to desist from expressing their views on this particular issue to the media,” Velumani said, responding to a question on the possibility of both the factions coming together in the backdrop of remarks made by the leaders of both sides.

He accused some leaders (in OPS camp) of sowing seeds for speculations by expressing different views to the media.

Conveying that the entire cadre want unification of both the groups, the minister said, “We are determined to save the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol and the same is the aim of OPS group too. We are ready for talks and that is the way to come to terms.”

“Back channel discussions and conversations over phone on the modalities of the unification talks have revealed that both Palanisamy and Panneerselvam are clear on merger aspect. When it happens, both sides will withdraw the cases claiming the party symbol before the Election Commission,” he said.

On the other hand, Deputy Speaker Jayaraman, said, “Everything is progressing in the right direction. Both the factions will unite. It will be well and good if you (journalists) avoid asking controversial questions and landing us in trouble.”

On his part, Pollachi MP Mahendran added, “We are as curious and interested as you (journalists) and cadre are anxious to see the groups coming together. All the MPs, MLAs and leaders are ready for peaceful talks.”
