2-day Teachers Eligibility Test from today to decide fate of thousands of teachers in Tamil Nadu
Thousands of teachers in government and government aided schools will be taking the Teachers Eligibility Test on Saturday and Sunday.
Chennai
The two-day weekend test will also decide the fate of around 3000 teachers working in government and government-aided schools.
On Saturday, the tests will be on Mathematics and Science and the next day, that is Sunday, it will be Tamil, English, Psychology and Social Science papers. The TET will be held for a total of 150 marks, with 30 for each subject.
Many teachers complained that due to the continuous and tight work schedule, they could not prepare thoroughly for the test. S. Rajesh, a teacher in Chemistry, said that science language teachers are at a disadvantage as there are only seven marks assigned to the subjects. “Teachers of English Tamil and social studies have an edge because they can easily score 60 marks with specification to their subject,” he says.
“The exam is on Saturday and we have to work in the school till Friday. Throughout the year, we are swamped with work and there is little time for preparation, “says Sathish, who received his appointment letter in 2011.
This is also the last chance for a few teachers of government-aided schools as, according to orders, they will be terminated if they fail in the test. These teachers are from the 2010-2011 batch and around 300 teachers are in a piquant situation.
TNTA State president PK Ilamaran says, “We have been voicing our concern for over a year to exempt certain teachers from writing the test. Despite that, they have been forced to write the test this year.”
