Baahubali 2 ticket prices surge above Rs 1,000

However, the film proved to be the most-anticipated one in the recent times as soon as the Madras High Court on Thursday cleared the decks for its release on Friday, since then the sale of tickets went through the roof. 

While the actual maximum price of the tickets is Rs 120, they are sold for Rs 1,250 out of counters across the city and the outskirts. Ram Solay, a software professional, managed to get tickets at a theatre in Chengalpattu for Rs 1,000. “I couldn’t get tickets online as the server crashed as soon the bookings opened. So along with my friends, we hunted for tickets in theatres across the city without success. Finally, we managed to get three tickets in Chengalpattu, each priced at 1,000.

Abirami Ramanathan, president of Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners’ Association, said that the tickets are sold for only Rs 120 over the counters. “People still buy tickets in the black for huge sums out of curiosity, which we cannot help. Moreover, recreational clubs have purchased tickets in bulk and have been selling at higher rates than normal for their fundraising activities. Over 32,000 tickets have been sold at Abirami Multiplex alone and it is already houseful for the first three days, which is a record.”
