NEET: Exempt Pondy for 5 years, says CM
Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to exempt Puducherry from the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) at least for the next five years and permit the continuation of the CENTAC pattern of admission on the basis of Class 12 exam since most of the students are from rural areas.

Speaking at the NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi on Sunday, the Chief Minister thanked the Union Government for taking the initiative to provide air connectivity to Pondicherry airport and providing technical assistance to help reviving of the Pondicherry Port.Â
Further, he thanked the Health Ministry for opening a Campus of JIPMER in Karaikal and Ministry of Tourism for disinvestment of Hotel Puducherry Ashok. However, because of the UT›s limited resources, Narayanasamy appealed to the Prime Minister to allow revival and modernisation of the Pondicherry Port by 100 per cent funding under Sagarmala Scheme and to bear the expenses for purchase of ITDC share. He said he has been requesting for a formula to grant funds to take care of Puducherry’s developmental requirement.Â
