Minister gets trolled for ‘project thermocol’

The incident happened on Friday when Sellur Raju, in an effort to prevent evaporation of the river water, had placed thermocol sheets on the water on an experimental basis. As soon as the sheets were placed on the water, they were blown away due to heavy winds. Minister and the officials did not expect that and the experiment turned out to be a damp squib. 

The social media reacted very quickly to the incident. The Minister was trolled and there were hashtags running in his name in Facebook and Twitter. Hashtags such as Sellur Raju, thermocol and Vaigai Dam became popular and people started creating memes. 

In many of them Sellur Raju was named as ‘Thermocol’ Raju and some even recommended him for a Nobel prize. In one of memes it was mentioned that next idea the Minister will try to cover the surface of the Sun to prevent excess heat from reaching the Earth. 

In another meme the project was compared with cleaning oil spill in Chennai using buckets and clearing flood waters through JCBs. Similarly a message was forwarded in Facebook and Whatsapp about the 11 future plans of Sellur Raju. Using Sello tape to prevent hole in Ozone layer, to cover the Sun with blankets, to put up a shamina across the state to escape from the scorching Sun, to bottle excess river water that gets mixed in sea, family control scheme for mosquitoes to prevent their breeding, to paste cement in the roads to prevent it from cracking and so on were listed as future projects. 

Similarly in another message on Whatsapp, a housewife, in Madurai, informs her husband that water from taps in Madurai had Tapiioca Sago present in them. To this the husband clarifies that the balls were indeed small thermocol balls from the Vaigai River due to disintegration of thermocol sheets that were introduced by the Minister to minimise evaporation losses.  

The experiment proved to be a great meat for meme creators and one from Chennai said that never has a government experiment been criticised to this extent. The experiment had provided them the template and will be trending for some more days said the creator.
