Rameswaram is one of the holy places in southern districts and thousands of devotees visit the holy town every day. Despite several private lodges functioning in the town, there is no quality government lodges there.Â
Hence, the state government had decided to construct a Yatri Nivas to facilitate the tourists visiting Rameswaram. A parcel of land adjacent to Rameswaram bus stand owned by Ramanathaswamy Temple had been selected to construct the Yatri Nivas.
The facility will have 100 rooms with a car park. Restaurants and other stalls would also be constructed within the building.Â
Nearly Rs 27 crores had been allotted for the new complex. The bhoomi pooja of the building was held on January 17 and the building was expected to be completed by June, 2018.Â
HR&CE officials led by its Commissioner Veera Shanmuga Moni carried out an inspection at the site and met the media. The Commissioner said that three battery cars were being operated in the Ramanathaswamy Temple and the number of such cars would be increased shortly.Â
He added that the security in the temple would also be strengthened and they would request the police department to deploy more forces to patrol the areas around the world-renowned temple.Â
