“Samalapuram has laid the foundation stone for a TASMAC free Tamil Nadu. As a woman political leader I cannot tolerate attack on women. We will fight with them till the last TASMAC outlet in the State is closed,” she said. Stating that no new TASMAC outlets should be opened in the State, she said that the party would organize protests in front of all existing TASMAC outlet across the State urging the government to close them (from April 18 or 19).

On the ADSP who led the assault on women protesters at Samalapuram she said that the officer should be disqualified. Stating that the party would be making a representation in this regard to the Director General of Police, she added that the party would move the court if the police failed to act on the police officer. “It is sad that no case has been registered against ADSP Pandiarajan while silent protesters have been booked under various non bailable sections,” she said.

Ms Soundararajan also came down heavily on Sulur MLA R Kanagaraj. She alleged that the MLA gave the signal to the police to resort to use of force to clear the crowd after he has left. “He should have been with the people. He is unfit to be an MLA. It is not enough if he (MLA) says he will resign. Let him resign,” she said.

The BJP leader condemned the State Government for renaming highways as streets to play the technically safe game with regard to the Supreme Court order and continue running the existing TASMAC outlets on the highways.

She challenged if political parties including DMK that is asking AIADMK to close TASMAC outlets is ready to announce closure of liquor factories run by their party functionaries. At this juncture she said that BJP is the only party that can bat for prohibition as they functionaries as well as cadre neither brew nor consume alcohol.
