The deceased woman was identified as Maheswari, wife of Ravi alias Isakki, a cook. On Tuesday morning, Maheswari’s neighbours saw smoke coming out of her house. They tried to rush in. As the intensity of the smoke was high, they called the Courtallam police suspecting foul play. When police went inside the house and checked, they found the charred bodies of Maheswari and her two children Vishwa (8) and Dhanashree (4).

Police retrieved all the three bodies and sent them for post mortem. During investigation, police found that money disputes in the family had forced Maheswari to take the extreme step. Her husband Ravi was not giving money properly to run the family and the couple fought frequently over the issue. On Tuesday morning too, the couple had a fight over the issue. After Ravi left for work, Maheswari fed poison to her children and committed self-immolation.
