The experts inform that temperatures in the city during summer will be above normal by just 0.5 to 1 degrees, adding, that April will bring some reprieve in the form of rain. The city had recorded the highest temperature so far on March 11 at 35.1 degree Celsius.

S Balachandran, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), said, “Though the northern part of the country is set to witness severe heat wave in the coming months, Tamil Nadu will only record a slightly higher temperature than normal. In the month of May, we might see some hot spells on a few days, depending on the direction of the winds from other states affected by the heat.”

Tamil Nadu weatherman Pradeep John says that April might, in fact, see some showers, bringing down the temperatures a little.  He added, “We don’t know as yet what the quantum would be like, but it will certainly make the second half of the month cooler as compared to the first half that is set to see a slight increase in the temperature.”

He also put to rest fears about another El Nino like situation that the state had witnessed in 2015. The maximum temperatures had hovered around 42 degree Celsius. “Nothing as alarming as that is in the offing,” he stated. Another weather blogger, K Srikanth, said, “We have to wait and watch to see the impact the absence of the tree cover following cyclone Vardah has in  the coming months when it  gets hotter”.
