The trio - Abbas Ali, Suleiman and Samsum Karim Raja, suspected to have links with terrorists organisations, were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Madurai, on November 28, 2016.

The NIA claimed that they along with two more, Ayub Ali and Samsudeen, were involved in five bomb blasts at Chittoor, Kollam, Mysore, Nellore and Malappuram.

After the Mysore bomb blast case was transferred to them, the NIA arrested the five accused and took them for investigation. The Kerala police had taken them under custody to probe the Malappuram and Kollam bomb blast cases.

Abbas Ali, Suleiman and Samsum Karim Raja were brought to Madurai on Monday. When they were taken to Abbas Ali’s house in Madurai, the parents of one of the accused prevented the police from entering their house.

They also got into a wordy quarrel with the police. However, the Kerala Police officials, with the help of armed forces personnel barged into the house and carried out investigation.

Addressing the media after the investigations, PT Balan, DSP, Narcotics Department, Kerala Police, said the five were taken under their custody for their involvement in the November 1, 2016, Malappuram bomb blast case. A library run by Abbas Ali was also searched by the officials.

“The investigation is focusing on how and from where the accused procured materials for making the bombs and how they transport it. We brought the accused here to identify the persons, who had helped them and the places they frequented,” said Balan.
