    Smooth run for industry

    The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore (ICCIC) has welcomed the budget for 2017-18 with its president Vanitha Mohan hailing it for maintaining existing tax rates – though the recent revision of tax on fuel had a dampening effect on revenues.

    Hailing the allocation of Rs. 532 crore for MSME sector, Vanitha said this will go a long way in pulling the sector from the hit they had suffered during demonetisation. She praised the Rs. 150 crore provision for vocational training to 1 lakh youth by establishing India International Skill Centre, one of which will be at Coimbatore. 

    ICCIC also welcomed allocation of Rs. 1,200 crore for the Smart Cities Mission and provision of Rs. 563 crore for the Tamil Nadu Sustainable Urban Development Programme and the Rs. 3,100 crore for improving road infrastructure is a welcome measure. The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA) has stated that the expectations of the sector are much more. 

    Its president V Sundaram welcomed the Government’s decision to extend support to formation of private industrial estates and effort to organise International Buyer Seller trade meets to help MSME’S to explore new markets.
