Many Tasmac shops in the city are located in the densely-crowded areas and are said to be causing problems to the residents living nearby. With the situation getting worse by the day, the residents want the shops either shutdown or the bars attached to Tasmac shops removed at crowded localities.
People cite two liquor shops in particular as major troublesome — a Tasmac shop at Petchiamman Padithurai and an elite bar at Karimedu. Residents, various associations and even political parties have been fighting for the removal of the two shops from the respective areas.
Baskar, an MDMK functionary of Ward No 81 where one of the two Tasmac shops is located, claimed that the shop located on the main road of the bazaar is creating a lot of troubles on a daily basis. “Drunkards are seen fighting in front of the shop every day and it causes great nuisance to the public,” said Baskar.
Padithurai Senthil, an AIADMK functionary in the same locality, said four schools including a girl’s school are located in the vicinity of the liquor shop. “A temple and a hospital are also located close to the shop and is causing inconvenience to passersby,” said Senthil.
Similarly, CPM members have also been fighting against the elite bar at Karimedu. The elite bar is located close to Karimedu Police station and is becoming a threat to law and order situation. Rajeswari, a CPM functionary said that the road which leads to Arapalayam bus stand is busy round the clock and large number of people especially women and children had to pass via the elite bar. People coming to the bar are creating great nuisance to the public, she said.
