In Thanjavur, the protesters led by Sami Natarajan, district secretary of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association gathered infront of Thanjavur Railway Junction and raised slogans demanding the release of Rs 39,565 crores by Union Government for drought relief. They also wanted increase in the quantum of relief announced by the state government.

Speaking to media persons, Natarajan said the government announced, that even though a farmer cultivated 10 acres land and lost their crop, compensation would be given only for a maximum of five acres. The relief should be given to all farmers for all areas they have cultivated, he added. Further, he pointed out that over 100 villages in the district have been declared ‘not affected by drought’. This should be amended and farmers in all the villages whose crops have been affected should be given relief.
