Vadakadu firm on stir against hydrocarbon
Even after the residents of Neduvasal withdrew their protest against the hydrocarbon extraction project following an assurance given by the state and centre governments, the residents of Vadakadu near Alangudi continued with their protest on Friday demanding the state government to pass a resolution in the Assembly.

During the protest, around 200 villagers staged a novel agitation by getting alms with their agricultural equipment at the Vadakadu bazaar while a section of women carrying agricultural produces, took out a rally through the streets towards the protest venue.
Meanwhile, two DMK MLAs, C V Meiyyanathan from Alangudi and K Ragupathi from Thirumayam segment reached to the venue and extended their support to the protesters.Â
The protesters demanded that the state government immediately convene the Assembly and pass a special resolution to stop the hydrocarbon project.Â
They also pointed out that the ONGC has sunk six exploratory wells, four at Nallandarkollai, Vanakkankadu, Karukkakuruchi Keezhatheru, Kallaikkollai and two at Kottaikkadu and demanded to close these wells and remove the pipelines.Â
Meanwhile, a section of protesters staged a mock funeral for the project and went on a procession in their area.
