Farmer commits suicide over crop loss, bank loan
A 46-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide after he lost his paddy crops to drought and failed to repay the agricultural loan, in this district, police said on Saturday.

The victim, Elangovan of Panthanallur had cultivated samba paddy crops on his land this year after availing a loan.Â
However, due to a drought-like situation, his crops withered. Upset over being unable to repay the loan on time he consumed poison on Friday night, they said.Â
It may recalled that on Thursday in Tirunelveli district, a 75-year-old farmer, Vembu Krishnan committed suicide for the same reason of crop failure and unable to pay back the loan he got from a bank.
