Announcing a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh for the boy’s family and Rs. 1 lakh for the fisherman who was badly injured in the assault, he said that the State will take the issue with the Government at the Centre very strongly.
Noting that the Sri Lankan Navy has been frequently engaged in attacking fishermen (from Tamil Nadu), tearing their nets as well as seizing their belongings, he said, “AIADMK MPs will take these issues to the notice of the Prime Minister in the next Parliament session, for a permanent solution,” he said. Palanisamy also said that during the parliamentary session the MPs will raise voice against the hydrocarbon project at Neduvasal in Pudukkottai and the Centre’s bid to privatise the Salem Steel Plant.
He said that he has also instructed officials to ensure availability of dhal and palm oil in all the PWD outlets across the State. The CM said that the Public Works Department (PWD) is preparing a project report on desilting Mettur Dam. On the fuel price hike as a result of increasing VAT in the state, which has attracted strong opposition from various quarters, the CM said that fuel price in Tamil Nadu is less than compared to many other states.
Earlier, the Chief Minister surprised district administration and the cadre when he arrived at the Salem Collectorate 10 minutes ahead of his scheduled arrival at 10.50 am on Tuesday. Unlike his practice of reaching the portico of the Salem Collectorate in his vehicle while he was a minister, Palanisamy got down from his at the main entrance of the Collectorate and walked 100 metres to the building, even he was greeted by party functionaries and cadre.
