Protesters plan to take Neduvasal to Prime Minister’s doors

The coordinators and the village peace committee members who earlier met the Union Minister held talks with the district Collector on Monday, said that they have decided to meet the Prime Minister and put forth their demands for which an internal meeting of 100 villagers adjacent to Neduvasal is scheduled and each village would have a representative. 

“Until the meeting of Prime Minister is over, the protest will continue,” said one of the coordinators. Meanwhile, on Monday, the women exhibited a wailing protest at Sri Naadiamman temple premises. 

Around 100 women sat in a circle and started wailing condemning the hydrocarbon project. They demanded the Union government to withdraw the project at the earliest to protect the livelihood of the farmers.  

Meanwhile, the resident from Vadakadu who commenced their protest recently, staged an agitation near bus stop demanding to remove the pipelines while, a group of residents from Keeramangalam area gathered at Keeramangalam bus stand and they staged an agitation for urging to withdraw the permission to extract hydrocarbon at Neduvasal.

The coordinators of the protest including the village peace committee which scheduled to organise a meeting on Monday was postponed for various reasons. The committee members including former MLA Pushparaj, Swaminathan, Farmers association representative Thalapathi and others have decided to meet the village heads of 100 panchayats in the surrounding areas by Monday evening. However, Pushparaj said that the meeting was postponed as there were multiple suggestions put forth prior to the meeting.
