Cartoonist Madan’s tips to students at Colours event
A district level drawing competition for school students named ‘Colours’ was conducted at Thoothukudi, on Saturday. Organised by Sterlite Copper, the event at which renowned cartoonist Madan was the chief guest, saw enthusiastic participation by a number of students.

In its fifth edition this year, ‘Colours’, an annual drawing competition for students of Thoothukudi, held at a private school saw the artistically inclined from Class 1 to Class 11 at their creative best. Over 2500 students from the district participated in the event under four categories. Various contemporary themes such as ‘Incredible India’ and ‘India 2025’ caught the imagination of many. The first category, conceived for children between Class 1 and Class 3, was labelled as ‘My Dream’. The theme for the next group of students, studying in Class 4 and Class 5 had the students breaking into a smile as it was ‘My Favourite Cartoon’.
The third category was given ‘Incredible India’, as the theme and it saw the participation of students from Class 6 to Class 8. Students Studying in Classes 9 to 11 were asked to draw around the theme, ‘India 2025’. The winners were awarded with medals and they walked away with cash prizes totalling Rs 80,000. The top three winners in the first category received Rs 4,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000, while the second category winners received Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000. The third category winners received Rs 6,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 and the fourth category winners received Rs 8,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.
In addition to this, 15 consolation prizes worth Rs 500 each were given to the students under each category. Cartoonist Madan gave away the prizes. Addressing the students, he said that participation is more important than winning. He also gave special tips to students for more than an hour and clarified the questions raised by parents and students. Organisers claimed that the objective of the event was to provide a quality creative platform to bring out the innate talent of the students.
