After Aadhaar numbers are linked with Public Distribution System (PDS) and other welfare schemes, more number of people started applying for Aadhaar cards.

As even more government schemes and services including education department had mandated Aadhaar cards, parents are now queuing-up at the Aadhaar centres for getting them for their children.

The problem persists in centres where application for children above the age of 5 are accepted, as most of the centres remain closed without any notification. Parents had to wait for hours to see the person who had taken the contract for registering Aadhaar applications.

One of the parents, Subbulakshmi, waiting outside a closed Aadhaar application centre at Madurai Collectorate, claimed that she had reached the office at 9 am and had been waiting for more than 4 hours but the centre remained closed. She was later informed that the person would come only at 2 pm.

Another parent, Dorairaj, claimed that in all the centres only selected number of Aadhaar applications are being distributed in a day and if the number gets over they are asked people to come the next day. There is no regulation in the distribution of Aadhar application and demanded the officials to regularly monitor and to regulate the process of issuing Aadhar applications claimed Dorairaj.
