    33 affected with chickenpox in Ariyalur

    As the sultry weather condition started to prevail, the seasonal ailments have started to witness among the people and shockingly in a village in Ariyalur as many as 33 persons including 19 children have chickenpox and the medical officials have started to screen the situation there.

    It is said, over 200 families reside at Kadarankondan village near Jayankondam in Ariyalur where the residents have complaints of itchy red blisters and they have approached the hospitals where they were confirmed of chicken pox. 

    On Thursday, around 25 persons including C Sangitha (33), her daughter Bavadharini (6), G Senthil (35) and R Indumathi (10) had the same symptoms of chicken pox. 

    Subsequently, a medical team rushed to the village and identified as many as 33 persons to have the disease and asked the others to take precautionary measures. 

    The doctors who visited the village said that the people still have the superstitious beliefs followed by some parents who feel that the infection in their child is because of the ‘blessings of a goddess’ and so they had tied neem tree leaves in bunch in the entrance of their houses. 

    On Friday evening, a team 18 member medical team led by four doctors which visited the village sensitised the villagers that the disease is infectious and asked them to ensure cleanliness in the entire village and instructed the villagers how to maintain cleanliness. The team also distributed the preventive medicines to each household.
