The DMK men, led by party’s Pollachi town secretary Thendral Selvaraj, resorted to this novel attempt in an apparent gesture to condemn the eviction of DMK MLAs on the day when Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy faced a floor test in the Assembly.

They set off from the house of Selvaraj at Kumaran Nagar to the MLA’s office near the bus stand in a procession carrying a sari, blouse, bangles, flowers, ribbons, bindhi and other cosmetics used by women, to present them to the Deputy Speaker. They raised slogans condemning Jayaraman and Speaker P Dhanapal and AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala all along the route.

As Jayaraman came to his town on Sunday and returned to Chennai immediately, the DMK men made a worker to wear Jayaraman’s mask dressed him like a woman and presented the articles to register their protest.

Selvaraj said that their protest was to criticise the MLA for supporting the Sasikala camp, which was reportedly against the popular opinion of the voters of the constituency. “We have also sent a pack of all the articles through courier to Dhanapal,” he said while displaying a courier receipt. Police seized the materials and arrested them as they organised a protest and procession without permission.

Meanwhile, on hearing about the protest, nearly 100 AIADMK cadre, led by the party’s town secretary and former municipality chairman Krishnakumar, gathered near the MLA’s office triggering tension in the region. Police protection was provided for the offices and houses of pro-Sasikala MLAs in the districts.
