O Panneerselvam camp MLA’s office picketed in Madurai

Madurai
On Monday, a group of around 30 AIADMK men belonging to the Sasikala camp came to the office of S S Saravanan and staged a protest condemning his stand.
Calling him a traitor for supporting Panneerselvam, the supporters of Sasikala group claimed that they worked hard for Saravanan’s victory in the last year’s Assembly election and that he had not respected their sentiments.
Police arrested all the 30, who protested in front of his office. Heavy police security wase posted at the MLA’s office and house following the protest.
During the protest, functionaries hailed AIADMK general secretary Sasiskala as ‘Thyaga Chemmal’ (epitome of sacrifice) and demanded Saravanan to resign his MLA post.
Saravanan was one among the 11 MLAs, who supported Panneerselvam, after the former CM raised a banner of revolt against AIADMK general secretary Sasikala. The Madurai South MLA voted against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy during the floor in the Assembly on Saturday.
Saravanan had earlier claimed that he was locked up in a private resort at Koovathur and he had escaped from the resort.
His statement had angered the supporters of Sasikala and they were waiting for him to return to Madurai.
After the agitation, police tightened security in the offices and residence of other MLAs across the district fearing more protests and counter protests by public and party cadre.
