DMK not for backdoor entry into government, says Opposition Leader

Stalin made this appeal while addressing the party’s state and district youth wing organisers and deputy organisers near Sulur on the outskirts of Coimbatore on Wednesday. “Stalin asked us not to be in a hurry to come to power,” a functionary, who attended the meeting told DTNext . He told the cadre that the DMK was not power-hungry and their prime focus should be on serving the people, he added. 

Pointing to the divide in the ruling AIADMK, Stalin raised doubts if any one of the factions would be able to form the government. “He said that even if one faction manages to form the government, it’s life will be short and may last for a month or two. He asked us to start working and be prepared to redeem Tamil Nadu,” another functionary added. 

Informing that all the DMK MLAs (but him) have been asked to be at Chennai by Tuesday night in view of the recent political developments in the State, he said that the working president has also cut short his Coimbatore trip to Wednesday afternoon and was returning to Chennai, though his actual schedule was to stay till Wednesday night. 

Later at a meeting where 1,250 persons from various political parties joined DMK, Stalin said that talks were doing rounds in the media that the Governor may invite OPS or the Sasikala faction representative Edappadi K Palanisamy or the opposition party (DMK) to form the government. 

Stating that the DMK would not prefer the backdoor route to form a government, Stalin said, “We will win people’s mandate and then form the government.” Reminding that it was time for local body elections in the State, Stalin wondered if the Assembly elections would come before the civic polls? He asked the cadre to be prepared for the polls and expressed confidence that DMK will emerge victorious. About the disproportionate assets case verdict by the Supreme Court, Stalin asked people not to forget that former chief minister J Jayalalithaa has also been convicted in the case, along with VK Sasikala and two others.
