The cop has now become the talk of his department in the district with fellow policemen heaping praise on him.

Ramanathapuram district is one of the dry districts in the state and the drought had been intense in the past two years and there had been very scanty rainfall in the region. The Central drought assessment team during its recent inspection also confirmed that there was 100 crop failure in the district.

In such circumstances, ADSP Inbamani initiated the desilting of a water body at Ramanathapuram and tasted success in his mission. There was an empty land which was previously a water body on a land behind the Armed Reserve Police quarters near the Ramanathapuram Collectorate.

Inbamani had several other ideas to save water bodies in view of the acute drought. The topmost of his plans was to convert the place into a rainwater harvest point for which he also obtained permission from Ramanathapuram SP Manivannan. Initially he contributed from his pocket and then a donor from Hyderabad supported Inbamani’s mission some 10 days back.

The area of the land chosen was 75,000 sqft and initially seemai karuvelam and other unnecessary plants were removed from the site. Then the land was dug up using an earthmover. After the excavation reached 15 feet, water gushed out from the land and spring and happiness from Inbamani’s heart.

Speaking to DTNext, Inbamani said that he hailed from an agricultural family in Salem district and wherever he goes he would initiate farm-related activities. In Ramanathapuram district too, he began the eco drive due to the severe drought in an effort to create a water harvesting point for cops.
