Speaking to DTNext, Justice Chandru said, “We are seeing a number of statements from various entities every day. But, the fact of the matter is that the AIADMK Constitution is quite inflexible. VK Sasikala is already the general secretary. Where is the question of expelling her? Power rests only with the general secretary, not with the Presidium Chairman,” he said. He pointed out that the party had always been functioning in an authoritative style with the general secretary holding absolute power even during late CM Jayalalithaa’s days.
“Also, I doubt if the no-confidence motion will happen. After all, if the party whip issues a directive asking MLAs to vote in a particular manner or a specific person, they have to obey the whip. Otherwise, they stand to lose their MLA seat,” he said. Justice Chandru said that as of now, the only entity of importance was the AIADMK legislature party. “Anyone who works slowly but steadily can consolidate his/her position. The local body elections are coming up and it is important to select the right candidates,” he said.
