A 46-year-old man shot his wife to death with his licenced country-made gun following a property row duel at Pallipalayam village near Tiruchengode in Namakkal district. Later, Chandrasekar, the accused, surrendered before Pallipalayam police and admitted to having shot dead his wife. The police arrested him and conducted preliminary investigations. Police said that Chandrasekar, an employee of Sashayee Paper Board (SPB) at Pallipalayam, was living in the office quarters with his wife and two daughters, Janani (15) and Dharani (13).

Inquiry revealed that Duraisamy, father of Chandrasekar, owned a piece of agricultural land measuring 3.5 acre at Appanaickenpalayam near Pallipalayam. Duraisamy had given one acre to Chandrasekar, a habitual drunkard, who eventually sold the land. Considering the future of his two granddaughters, Duraisamy recently wrote a Will, transferring the remaining 2.5 acre on Duraisamy’s sister Palaniyammal.

Agitated over this, Chandrasekar frequently quarrelled with Duraisamy, Palaniyammal, his sister and mother-in-law and Jothimani, police said. On Tuesday afternoon, while Jothimani was making brooms from dry coconut leaves in their house at Appanaickenpalayam, her husband came home drunk and picked a quarrel with her.

In a fit of rage, he shot her on the right side of her neck with his country-made gun killing her on the spot. On information, police reached the spot, recovered Jothimani’s body and sent it to the Salem Government Hospital for post-mortem. A forensic expert inspected the scene of crime and collected evidences. The weapon used for killing Jothimani has also been seized.

    Crime record

Chandrasekar and Jothimani were among the six persons, who were arrested by the police for their alleged role in the murder of Dalit youth V Gokulraj at Pallipalayam in July 2015. The couple was accused of having helped Yuvaraj, Dheeran Chinnamalai Goundar Peravai president and the prime accused in the Gokulraj murder case.
