CPM cadre stir for compensation to farmers
The CPM cadre staged a rally and demonstration on January 7 demanding a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to 200 farmers who lost their lives due to crop failure.

The protestors led by Central Committee member K Varadharajan said, “The farmers were struggling to meet both the end due to failure of monsoon, which resulted into withering of crops and so they demanded Rs 25,000 per acre for paddy, Rs 50,000 per acre for sugarcane and Rs 75,000 per acre for banana.” They also demanded to desilt the entire waterbodies across the state with the MGNREGA workers.
Their demands included that the government should not force the people to use digital transaction which is difficult for the people, withdrawing the cases registered against the students who staged protest for jallikattu and action against the policemen who fuelled the violence.
The members went on a procession from Gandhi market arch and reached the taluk office and also staged a road block. Later, 200 people including 50 women were arrested.
