One more person, Osama, was arrested at Madurai, in the pipe bombs seizure case. Three persons were arrested in connection with seizure of two pipe bombs from a tailoring shop. All the four were remanded.
Madurai
According to the police the incident happened on Thursday, when the tailoring shop of Abdul Rahman, at K Pudhur in Madurai, was raided by the police and a pipe bomb was seized. Based on the information obtained from him, police seized another pipe bomb from the house of Abdulla, also from K Pudhur. Both were secured and taken to Madichiyam police station.Â
During interrogation, they divulged that two more persons were involved in the incident. Based on the information, the police arrested Kadhar Sherif on Thursday night and Osama on Friday morning. Cases were filed on all four by K Pudhur Police and were remanded on Friday afternoon. The seized bomb was around 10 feet long and was fitted with batteries and wires. It was also stuffed with explosive powder, claimed the police.Â
A section of police had initially claimed, on Thursday, that the gang was planning to explode the bombs on Republic Day but another section said that the gang had targeted Hindu Munnani leader Rama Gopalan who had gone to attend a meeting at Palladam on Thursday. But jallikattu protesters have a different explanation behind the arrest. They claimed that Abdullah had participated in the jallikattu protests along with his son in front of the Tamukkam ground at Madurai and had spoken fiercely against Central government. Hence the police had targeted him and his friends and had planted a false case against them, claimed the protesters.
