“The violence unleashed by the police, on Monday, make us suspect if police only instigated trouble,” he told reporters here on Tuesday. “I saw three videos of policemen and women torching vehicles and huts while around 100 cops were standing mute spectators,” he said.

Condemning the brutal attack on students, youth and women across the state he said that PMK will move the Madras High Court on Wednesday, seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or by a SC judge into the police action.

“Students and youth did not indulge in violence. Those who burnt the Ice House Police Station were not students,” he said and lauded the efforts of protesters to make the government pass the Bill to conduct jallikattu. According to him, students came out to the streets and fought in a revolutionary manner after 50 years.

“Jallikattu was a catalyst and outburst of their anger against the state and Union governments. They were unhappy with the way things progressed after the demise of former chief minister Jayalalithaa. Coupled with a series of anti-Tamil Nadu stand of the Centre over the Cauvery, Sri Lankan Tamils, fishermen and NEET they took jallikattu an opportunity to show their anger and unity,” he added.
