In Madurai, women outnumber men by 30,000
Women outnumbered men by close to 30,000 voters in Madurai district in the final revision of the electoral roll for the year 2016.

Madurai Collector, K Veera Raghav Rao, released the electoral roll at his office, on Thursday. In Madurai district there are 25,41,497 voters. Among them there are 12,56,908 male voters and there are 12,84,497 female voters. Apart from them there are 112 transgender voters. The electoral list was prepared till September 30, 2016, with the criteria of completion of 18 years by January 1, 2017.Â
Compared to the previous electoral list that was released on September 1, 2016, there is an inclusion of 49,899 voters and 4,182 voters were deleted from the previous list. The voters list would be displayed in government offices such as Tahsildar offices, Union and Zonal offices.Â
However, the addition, deletion and correction of names in the voters list would be carried out without any problem and forms such as form 6,7, 8 and 8A would be available for addition, deletion and correction respectively. In total, there are 2,687 polling stations in 1,105 locations in the district said the Collector.
